New sponsor for new hockey season

Thursday 08 September 2016

The new hockey season kicks-off this weekend with a new sponsor.

Rathbones have committed to supporting the sport locally for the next three seasons, sponsorship that will help the men's and women's teams drive forward with their campaigns off-Island.

Rathbones Director Grant Hamilton said: “We are incredibly proud to support the development of hockey in the Island and we’re excited about the growth of the sport, here, in the UK and beyond. We have committed to a three-year sponsorship programme and we aim to help ensure the best possible experience for players at every level.”

The sponsorship will also support the junior development programme ensuring that Island youngsters have the opportunity to learn the game from qualified coaches locally. Particularly promising players will also have the chance to attend coaching sessions and train at regional assessment centres in the UK.

Jersey Hockey Committee Member Phil Cuming said: “Jersey Hockey is thrilled to welcome Rathbones as our new sponsor. Their support will go a long way to helping our players develop and participate in competitions. The future is bright for hockey locally and will only continue to progress with the arrival of the new clubhouse. We are excited about what can be achieved over the next three years alongside Rathbones.”

Last season, gold medallist, Maddie Hinch visited the Island to provide coaching to local goalkeepers, an opportunity made possible thanks to the sponsorship.

The Jersey Hockey men’s and women’s representative sides will commence their England Hockey Trophy campaigns in October. The junior and master’s sides will also begin their knockout competition campaigns this autumn.
