Batelco’s third quarter results confirm that Sure in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man (Sure CIIM) continues to attract new customers, helping the Batelco Group exceed 9.5 million subscribers across all of the jurisdictions in which it operates.

Sure CIIM’s third quarter results include new subscribers to Sure’s landline services in Jersey. This is the first time such figures have been included in Batelco’s results following the opening up of competition in landline services in June.

The third quarter figures show that Sure is an attractive proposition for landline customers and in Jersey, had a pre-order list that was equivalent in size to 5% of the Island's market. This move towards Sure CIIM was replicated across all service lines and resulted in YOY subscriber numbers being up 2% in mobile, 13% in broadband and 5% in fixed line services.

Sure's strong performance helped Batelco's overseas operations contribute 58% of the Group's revenues, which were BD279.6M (US$741.6M) for the period.

Speaking about the contribution that overseas operations make to to the Group, Batelco Group A/CEO Ihab Hinnawi, focused on the investments that each jurisdiction is making. These include the installation of 4G networks in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.

"We operate in very diverse markets each with their unique needs. Accordingly, we are continuing to undertake significant investments depending on the various needs of our individual operations, for the benefit of the group as a whole,” said Mr Hinnawi.

Graham Hughes, CEO of Sure Jersey is pleased that customers are continuing to choose Sure, particularly at a time when the future of other telcos is uncertain.

“Sure is an entirely customer focused business and I think this makes us very attractive to islanders who want to receive excellent customer service as much as the latest technology and low prices.

“In Jersey, we operate in a very competitive marketplace but there is uncertainty among other operators and I think customers want reassurance about the future of their communication services, which is something Sure can offer and which makes it is extremely pleasing to see many more people choosing Sure.”
