Number of islanders seeking work falls – but more long-term unemployed

Thursday 08 July 2021

There are 1,000 people registered as actively seeking work in Jersey last month – 950 fewer than last year.

This was also 280 fewer than the previous quarter.

Of the 1,000 people registered as actively seeking work, 340 individuals were engaged in some form of paid employment, but deemed ‘underemployed’. This means that they are working fewer hours than they would like or not in an adequate employment situation.

This figure was 100 lower than June 2020.

However, the number of people that have been seeking work for more than 12 months has risen to 450, 160 more than the previous year.

According to the latest figures, more women than men are currently actively seeking work – 560 compared to 450.

The figures were released yesterday by Statistics Jersey. You can read their full report HERE.
