The complete panel line-up for the Institute of Directors (IoD) Debate 2016 has been announced. This year, the focus of the debate is how to make Jersey’s future as an attractive place for businesses and residents.

Once again sponsored by law firm Carey Olsen, the debate will examine how mega trends are likely to shape the environment in which Jersey’s public and private sectors exist over two panel sessions throughout the evening.

The event will take place on Thursday 15th September at the RJA&HS.

Chaired by renowned news broadcaster Alastair Stewart OBE, the panel for 2016 will include:

  • Senator Ian Gorst, Chief Minister of Jersey

  • Graeme Millar, CEO, JT
  • Colin Powell, CBE, International Affairs Adviser, States of Jersey
  • Tony Moretta, CEO, Digital Jersey

In keeping with the theme ‘Future-Proofing Jersey’, the panel will also explore Jersey’s commitment to innovation, internal and external threats, the Island’s use of resources and competition from other jurisdictions.

IoD Jersey Chairman Chris Clark, said: "Being able to offer a good environment for a diverse business landscape is critical for Jersey and we need to make sure we the right plans in place now to make the most of future opportunities and anticipate potential challenges. With panellists spanning the public and private sectors, we have a very strong line-up this year who I am sure will provide us with some real food for thought.”

Alex Ohlsson, Managing Partner of sponsor Carey Olsen, added: “Global political and economic developments will undoubtedly continue to have a real impact on Jersey, as the latest forecast from the Fiscal Policy Panel indicates. For this reason, having strong, innovative leaders across our government and in our business community will become increasingly important and I’m sure that the panellists will provide some fascinating insights into how bold leadership will be a key ingredient in safeguarding our collective future success.”

Starting at 17:30pm with a drinks reception sponsored by Ashburton Investments, the event will explore whether Jersey has the right leadership, brand, systems and expertise required to steer a safe course and ensure a successful future for local businesses and residents.
