Jersey's telecoms market set to be reviewed

Thursday 30 November 2023

A review from Jersey's regulatory authority is set to look into regulation in the telecoms sector and develop the sector's regulatory framework.

The Jersey Competition Regulatory Authority is focusing on the policy framework for government telecoms, regulatory and economic policy, and consumer policy.

Islanders are being asked for their opinion on the timing, scope and timeline of the review.

Peter Hetherington, the JCRA's Chief Economist, said: “The Authority’s aim is to maintain well-functioning markets, supporting both competition and investment in connectivity.

"The Telecoms sector is fundamentally important to all islanders.

"Consumers rely on telecoms services to keep in contact with friends, loved ones, and the world around them.

"In the workplace, telecoms services are of paramount importance in maintaining business competitiveness and productivity.

“The Review will be overarching, to test the current operating and regulatory environment and ensure both are fit for purpose for the future benefit of both the telecoms companies and their customers.”

The review is expected to conclude in early 2025.
