Samsung headline major health tech event in May

Tuesday 21 April 2015

Experts from mobile giants Samsung and the former chief of Barts Hospital in London are coming to Jersey for a day of events promoting technology in healthcare.

With debate about the new hospital – with an estimated price tag of around £350 million – and future funding for healthcare both high up the political agenda, the organiser of the visit says he hopes it will focus attention on the innovation possible through tech.

The visitors include Scott Andrew, Samsung’s head of health business in Europe, former Barts chief officer Paul White, who will be in the Island on 14 May. The events include a breakfast briefing, a talk by Samsung at 11 am, and an evening invitation-only discussion on health technology.

The event is being organised by Danny Bannister of Total Solutions Group who design medical billings software used by Island GPs which is being rolled out across the UK.

Danny said: “As we go around UK exhibitions we meet people and make acquaintances, and we’ve put this event together to encourage discussion and conversation locally about healthcare technology and how we can integrate it into existing services.

“The idea is to get everybody together in a room and see what conversations come out of it – it could not be more appropriately timed, given the ongoing discussions about reform of healthcare and the new hospital.”
