Monday 03 October 2016

Jersey law firm Benest Corbett Renouf will welcome what it has described as a "stellar line-up of speakers from the world of family law" at two conferences it is hosting at The Hotel de France, later this week.

On Thursday 6th October, there will be a one day conference on the theme of disclosure in divorce proceedings, led by keynote speaker Jeffrey W Brend, a leading Chicago-based forensic divorce attorney.

Other well-known presenters that day include Sir Peter Singer, Bruce Blair QC and Ann Hussey QC of 1, Hare Court Chambers, London, as well as Andrzej Bojarski, co-author of “Unlocking Matrimonial Assets on Divorce.” Farrer & Co’s Claire Gordon, Maggie Rae from Clintons, James Riby of Charles Russell Speechlys and David Lister of Mishcon de Reya, London, will complete the line-up.

Recently appointed BCR Group Partner Paul Coleshill will also present on disclosure required from businesses in the context of divorce and how to achieve this.  Day one will be chaired by the firm’s Managing Partner, David Benest.

Day two will focus on children law issues, in the context of 'What happens when it all goes wrong.' Partner and Head of Family Law, Barbara Corbett, will host the event.

High profile speakers on 7th October include Pamela Scriven QC, a London-based barrister and Jersey Commissioner, and Elizabeth McGrath QC (Chair). Will Tyler QC will consider how the court deals with parental mental-health issues and the conference will also hear from Jersey-based social worker Tanja Tinari. A mock-trial will also take place with the family law team from One, Garden Court family law chambers.  The conference that day is held in conjunction with The Association of Lawyers for Children.

Advocate Corbett said:  “I am so looking forward to our family law conferences, which draw on the expertise of practitioners from around the world and our team’s experience in organising these events for the past eight years. Our annual conferences enable all lawyers, social workers and anyone involved in family law in Jersey, to enhance their knowledge of best practice and to hear from some world-class speakers.”
