State Street "wellness month"

Monday 15 September 2014

September is wellness month for State Street employees in the Channel Islands with the company holding a month-long programme of events, talks and activities focusing on physical and mental wellbeing.

Throughout September, top health care providers and specialist charity organisations based in the Channel Islands will come into State Street’s offices to provide informative sessions as well as free health checks and dietary advice.

The charities, which include Mind Jersey, Macmillan Jersey, Teenage Cancer Trust, Jersey Hospice Care and ABC (After Breast Cancer), were all selected because they have a personal relevance with State Street employees. ABC’s session, for example, will also include State Street’s own Sam Doyle talk about her own brave struggle to overcome breast cancer.

Mike Newton, Managing Director of State Street in Jersey, said: "This event is about giving something back to our employees. The team gives the company their commitment and energy daily and we wanted to provide them with an opportunity enhance wellbeing. Everyone is proud to be working with so many highly skilled professionals and excellent charity partners throughout the month."

The programme was many months in the planning, led by employee relations consultant Louise Carson and volunteers who made up the Wellness Committee - Jo Brimble, Monika Nocun, Jon Stasiak, Alice Nelson, Liz Barlow, Joanne Roberts and Dominic Palmeri).

Activities during the month include:

• A presentation on teamwork from inspirational speaker Will Carnegie, who has led a team of amateur sailors around the world against prevailing winds, currents and waves.

• Movement and pain management in the office with Julia Morris (Consultant Physiotherapist in Pain Management) and Rosy O’Doherty (Senior Occupational Therapist).
• General Health reviews and male and female health sessions by Island Medical Centre
• Stress Less, Perform More presented by the Resilience Development Company

Each charity organisation will receive a donation from State Street in recognition of their participation but all offered to take part for free in support of raising awareness of their services and specialist subjects.
