Data collected by JT during the NatWest Island Games XVI has confirmed it to be the most connected in the Games’ history.

JT installed 82 wireless access points to its broadband network across the Island for competitors and spectators to use during the Games period, which together registered 84, 228 connections, and enabled more than 11,000 different devices to download 2.1 TB’s (a terabyte is 1,024 Gigabytes) of data.

Those customers used Facebook (146.7 GB of data used) more than three times as often as they logged onto Twitter (40.3GB) or Instagram (30.9 GB), with 70% using Apple devices.

As expected, the most common area to access Wi-Fi was in the Games Village in Howard Davis Park, followed (in order) by the Weighbridge, Liberation Square, and St Aubin.

Tim Ringsdore, Chief Relationship Officer at JT, said: “The NatWest Island Games were hugely successful and we congratulate the organisers on their accomplishment. This event has been important in bringing the Islands closer together through sport and the legacy of the Games to Jersey is enormous. We are proud to have played such a key role in delivering such a technically advanced event and that we were able to help Jersey shine.

“We were pleased to deliver seamless connectivity and bandwidth to support the NatWest Island Games organisers to put in place and utilise the latest communications technology to help transmit live results and keep communication channels open across the venues. It was also fantastic that visitors to Jersey got to enjoy the benefits of connecting to our island-wide new 4G network and superfast free Wi-Fi which was made possible thanks to our fibre network. We received many positive comments from the visting media and visitors alike.”
