Top governance talent celebrated in black tie event

Thursday 06 October 2016

ICSA celebrated the Island’s top governance talent in an exclusive sell-out black tie event last week.

The ICSA Awards 2016 saw professionals from across the Island, as well as ICSA students and recent graduates, gather in Hotel de France for an evening applauding their continued contributions to corporate governance and academic achievements.

All awards were judged by industry experts and ranged from Company Secretarial Officer of the Year - won by Claire de la Haye of Mourant Ozannes - to Governance Award of the Year, taken home by Computershare Offshore.

Students achievements were also recognised, with Danielle Sangan of Elian Private Wealth gaining the title of Student Excellence Award based on her exam performance.

Rudi Howard and Elizabeth Epifanio were also recognised for Best Jersey Completion of the Diploma in Offshore Finance and Administration (DOFA), and Best CSQS Completion respectively, although both were unable attend the dinner.

Robert Le Corre described the turnout as “our largest yet”, adding that this “bodes well for the profession since these are the company secretaries and administrators of the future”.

Double celebrations were in order, however, as the dinner also marked the 125th anniversary of the governance company, which was originally founded as the Institute of Secretaries in 1891. Today, ICSA: The Governance Institute represents around 34,000 members and students in 80 countries - over 800 of which are based in Jersey.

“Good governance benefits companies, large and small, by establishing a framework of processes and attitudes that add value to the business, help build its reputation and ensure its long-term continuity and success. The need for governance professionals who support and advise the boards of organisations in all industries and sectors has never been more relevant than it is today,” said Mr Le Corre.

Thanks to a charity draw, the dinner also raised over £1,000 for Help a Jersey Child.

Following a speech from Lord Finkelstein OBE, the festivities continued late into the evening with music provided by local DJ Warren Le Sueur.
