Jersey's first conference held simultaneously across two different venues took place this week.

Organised by Leadership Jersey, the twin-conference was attended by more than 200 delegates at the Royal Yacht and Pomme D'Or Hotels, with sessions linked by a live video feed.

It was called Leadership - The Future, and posed the question, "What will future leaders need?"

The delegates heard from local speakers such as Richard Summerfield (JT), Katherine Salt (Digital Salt) and Alexsis Wintour (Marbral) and Emma Pannenborg. They were joined by senior international speakers such as Mark Spelman, who dealt with "Digital Disruption - Opportunities or Threat?"

Emma Pannenborg spoke at both hotels, having studied Leadership in Jersey as part of her Honours Degree in Business and Management at the University College Jersey:

"The leader of tomorrow will be the person who can admit they don't have all the answers, but they have the contacts and network to find them. We need leaders who understand how connected we are to the rest of the world. We need to be developing leaders who aren't afraid to fail, and realise they can't be successful every time. Leadrs need to be forward thinking, and open to change.

"We need to do more to develop our leaders. We need to create an attitude of continuous development. This needs to carry over into succession planning. Organisations need to be more proactive. We need to find a way to give leaders the experience they need, and to consider how effective our training methods are, and the relevance of what we are teaching."

It was organised by Helen Hart and Kevin Keen from Leadership Jersey - Mr Keen commented:

" Based on an initial review of the feedback the conference was clearly enjoyed by our audience, which represented a broad cross section of the Island. This interest reinforces the vital importance of great leadership to succeeding in our rapidly changing world.

"We were fortunate that such a fantastic  line up of speakers from in and outside of Jersey were willing to give their time and expertise voluntarily to this event. I would like to record my sincere thanks to all of them.

"What matters now is what those that attended do in response to the call to action and for the Leadership Jersey initiative finding  a way to engage the many leaders who were just too busy to attend an event focussed on improving leadership in our Island."
