Vote now for your favourite duck

The public are being invited to vote for their favourite design of the 2016 Barclays Jersey Boat Show duck on social media.

For the first time Barclays asked young islanders to submit their designs for the duck which will be the mascot at next year’s Jersey Boat Show.

A panel of Barclays judges picked their three favourite designs from the entries and these have been posted on Barclays’ Facebook page to allow the public to ‘like’ their preferred design. The entry with the most likes will be named the winner.  The 2016 ducks will then be created using the winning design and the young artist will have the exclusive chance to see the duck before the show.

Voting will close at midday on Friday, with the overall winner announced on Friday 12 June.

The competition was open to all primary school students. Entrants were allowed to use any materials they liked to create their design, including crayons, paint and pencils. Contestants had the option to submit their entries in the Barclays branch or on social media.

The duck has become an icon of the Barclays Jersey Boat Show since its first appearance in 2010. It is a firm favourite with children and adults alike playing the ‘Hook a Duck’ game at the Show, which this year helped raise £6563 for the Show’s beneficiary charity, the British Red Cross.

Every year the duck has a new look and many islanders collect the different editions. This year’s duck featured a British Red Cross inspired design to mark the 70th anniversary of Liberation Day, while the 2014 duck wore a Royal Marine beret to mark the 350th anniversary of the Royal Marines.

Paul Savery, Managing Director of Barclays in Jersey, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for a young islander to see their design be a central part of one of Jersey’s most popular community events. The winner will get to see their duck brought to life and join the six other editions which have now become collector’s items. Every year the ‘Hook a Duck’ game raises a lot of money for worthy charities and the winning design will be an important part of this.”

The public can vote for their favourite Barclays Jersey Boat Show duck design on Facebook.
