Students from three of the Island's secondary schools return for this year’s Rotary Young Chef Competition.
The competition, organised by the Rotary Club of Jersey, sees local finals at Les Quennevais on Thursday 14 January - with contestants there joined by students from Beaulieu and Jersey College for Girls.
Each student will be required to cook a three-course meal for two people for no more than £15 before a panel of judges.
The students will be competing for a place in the District Final to be held in Bournemouth on Saturday 27th February, and locally the winner will receive the Jersey dairy perpetual trophy. In addition there will also be a Genuine Jersey trophy for the best use of local produce.
As well as being judged on taste, presentation and kitchen hygiene the judging panel will also be assessing the students on their choice in supporting healthy eating
Eamon Fenlon, President of the Rotary Club of Jersey, said: “Once again Rotary are very pleased to be supporting the Young Chef competition.
"Young chefs are not limited by their ingredients they use, but what they have to create are inspirational and mouth watering menus. I’m looking forward to seeing, and tasting the results and wish all the contestants the very best of luck.”
The Rotary Club of Jersey has thanked the Channel Islands Cooperative Society for providing the food and also for sponsoring the travel to the UK for the local winner to attend the District Final, and also Mercury Distribution who will be providing chefs jackets and aprons for all the local finalists.
