The annual Leicester Tigers’ Rugby Camps return to Jersey this month, in association with Ashburton Investments who are marking their tenth anniversary of supporting the initiative this year.

The camps offer young Island rugby players the opportunity to learn from coaches who work with England internationals like Ben Youngs, Manu Tuilagi and Dan Coles on a daily basis.

This year’s week-long sessions, once again split into two age groups, kick off on July 18 and are open to all keen, young rugby players under the age of seven or fourteen who would like to improve their skills with the help of professional players.

The camps offer top-quality tips and coaching sessions from the Leicester Tigers development coaches, giving Jersey children a unique opportunity to gain experience and confidence in their game, offering them a great chance to sharpen their skills and encouraging them to make new friends through tag and contact rugby.

The team of visiting coaches this year will be led by former Tigers player and current junior academy coach Lewis Clifford, who will be supported by full-time Tigers staff and development officers Will Hoey, Sam Swift, Blaine Bonnin-Ward, Gareth Turner, Charles Hurley, and Steven Baker. Anthony Allen (pictured), former England international and now senior academy coach at Leicester, will also be attending to pass on insights from his decade as professional rugby player at the highest level.

This popular activity week, which is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year, has become a favourite for children of Jersey who are keen to learn from the most successful rugby union team in the modern era. For a decade now, Ashburton Investments have sponsored the rugby camps, playing a significant role in developing young rugby talent in the Island.

Leicester Tigers’ Club Captain, Ed Slater, commented: “These camps offer valuable and fun experiences for hundreds of budding rugby players around the UK regions, including here in Jersey. With first-team players visiting the camps and offering insight into the game and coaching tips, it brings out the best in the athletes and we see them working hard together as a team to achieve a positive result.  Each year it proves to be a fun and exciting experience for both the Tigers’ players and the young athletes.”

The training camps will be held at the Jersey Rugby Club (JRFC). For more information or to book a place on the camps, please visit www.leicestertigers.com/jersey or call 0116 319 8888 and select option 2.
