The Durrell Dasher is back! Kindly sponsored by Rathbones, this popular road race will take place on Sunday 5th December, starting and finishing at Jersey Zoo, with the option of a 6km route or a more challenging 12km route through the scenic lanes of Trinity.

The event organisers are encouraging runners of all abilities, aged 13 and over, to sign up for the race and get into the Christmas spirit by running in festive fancy dress.

Alexandra Shears, Durrell’s Director of Communications and Fundraising, says, “We are so excited to be able to hold the Durrell Dasher at the zoo this year, after having to sadly cancel last year’s race due to COVID-19 restrictions. Along with our event sponsor, Rathbones, we would love to see lots of people taking part and embracing the festive theme. This event is our final fundraiser of the year so we hope everyone will be inspired to take part and help our work saving some of the rarest wildlife on the planet.

Runners can sign up for the Durrell Dasher here. Registration closes on Wednesday 1st December at 17:00.

Upon registration, participants are encouraged to set up their own fundraising page to help raise funds for the care of the animals at Jersey Zoo and Durrell’s global conservation efforts to create a future where wildlife can thrive. Special prizes will be awarded to the highest fundraiser and the best-dressed Dashers, so be sure to wear your favourite Christmas jumper, reindeer antlers, or even dress up as an animal from Jersey Zoo!

Commenting on their ongoing support, Phil Bain, Deputy Managing Director of Rathbones in Jersey, says, “The “virtual” Durrell Dasher was brilliant last year but we are absolutely over the moon to be able support Durrell in re-establishing the “real” event. We hope that runners and Durrell supporters will embrace this opportunity to run, socialise and, most importantly, help keep Durrell on track with the incredible work they do. Rathbones emphatically share Durrell’s values and we are honoured to be able help them achieve their goals.”

After the race, runners are invited to stay and continue the festivities at Jersey Zoo’s annual Christmas event. Zoo members and visitors can enjoy watching the animals receive their festive treats, and there will be live music, storytelling, face painting, and of course – mulled wine and mince pies!
