Around twenty finance bosses are set to undertake an abseil down Mont Orgueil Castle and hundreds of finance workers take on a walking challenge as part of a fundraising push next week designed to benefit a broad range of local charities.

The ‘Together We Shine Fundraising Week’, organized by Jersey Finance and sponsored by Rathbones (20 – 25 September), is part of a programme of activity marking the 60th anniversary of Jersey as an international finance centre.

Over the course of the week, finance firms are being asked to arrange and participate in a broad range of fundraising initiatives, with a view to raising funds for local charities via the Association of Jersey Charities (AJC), who Jersey Finance are partnering with this year and are themselves celebrating their 50th anniversary.

Highlights of the week include a ‘Send Your Boss Over the Edge’ abseil down Mont Orgueil on Wednesday 22 September, with a number of CEOs and senior managers from across the industry already signed up, whilst a ‘60km in 6 days’ walking challenge will see teams from a broad range of firms undertake a sponsored walk through Jersey’s countryside over the course of the week.

Commenting on the week, Claire Lyons, Head of Marketing at Jersey Finance, who will be taking part in the abseiling challenge, said:

“The focus of our anniversary this year has been on celebrating how our industry is interlinked with and part of the local community and how by working together we can build a prosperous future for Jersey. By bringing the finance industry together to support our Island community, and working with the Association of Jersey Charities, we really hope that we can have a significant and positive impact on local charities and worthy causes.

“Our aim over the year has been to raise a total of £60,000 and our fundraising week is a key part of that effort. We’re asking our member firms to get creative and I really hope that, from cake sales and quizzes to BBQs and bingo nights, people will support their efforts and raise a really good sum for local charities.”
