Special lighthouse illumination to remember woman who died at Corbière

Corbière Lighthouse is set to be illuminated in white next week to mark the funeral of an 84-year-old woman who died in a car accident in the area earlier this month.

Ports of Jersey is extending the floodlighting of the coastal landmark for a further two weeks due to popular demand.

On request of her family, the lighthouse will be lit in white on Thursday 2 May to mark the funeral of Ann Robins who died when her car went over a ridge at Corbière.

This extension will also see Corbière Lighthouse lit up for both Liberation Day and National Fishing Remembrance Day, which aims to raise awareness of the dangers of fishing as a profession and to remember those who have lost their lives at sea.

Harbour Master Captain Bill Sadler said that islanders’ response to the illuminations has been beyond expectations.

He said: “We have been delighted and overwhelmed by the positive reaction to this celebration of the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse.

"The area has been very popular in the evenings and I have seen some amazing photos.

"I hope this extension will offer more time for people to view the sight in person, while also providing a backdrop to Jersey’s national day, and the remembrance day for commercial fishers.”

Ports of Jersey thanked the St Brelade Honorary Police and residents of the area for supporting this tribute to the lighthouse and its 150 years of service.
