Autism charities in Jersey and Guernsey are set to benefit from the efforts of JT’s staff during their annual Global Charity Day, which was held on the 20th June 2014 and raised a total of £4,685. For the third consecutive year, JT has supported Autism charities and the annual Global Charity Day focuses the efforts of staff across its offices in Guernsey, Jersey, London, Boston and Melbourne to have some fun and raise funds for a shared cause at the same time.

Activities during the day included an ‘annual leave’ raffle, cakes sales and office games; while staff in Jersey literally ‘jumped’ for autism by taking part in Jumping fitness sessions outside the JT store in Queen Street.

Daragh McDermott, JT’s Corporate Affairs Director and member of the Autism Jersey Board, said: “We are delighted to have raised almost £5,000 in just one day, and thank all of our staff for getting involved. This is the third year of our commitment to Autism charities and we are very pleased to have topped up our fundraising so well during this one day. This year we saw some very creative ways of involving all the teams across our offices in Guernsey, Jersey, London, Boston and Melbourne and every pound raised was matched by JT.

He continued: “I personally became involved with Autism Jersey through this commitment and through engaging our 400 plus staff in our support programme we have had some very successful mutually beneficial outcomes, including JT making a fantastic financial contribution to the charities which work tirelessly to support local individuals and families affected by autism.”

Nick Winsor Chairman of Autism Jersey said: “On behalf of Autism Jersey, I would like to thank everyone at JT for their fantastic support of our charity. Not only for the donation, which I can assure you will be put to good use, but also for the work that you have done in raising awareness of autism, a condition that effects over 1:100 people, but does not always get the recognition that it deserves. Thanks to support like this, our work ‘to champion a full and inclusive life for people with autism, their families and carers’ can continue.”

In Jersey as well as taking part in the global fundraising day, JT has supported Autism Jersey in a number of ways:

 · The JT Mount Kilimanjaro Trek – fundraising challenge took place early 2014

· Helping to organise the annual “L’Etacq and back” walk

· ‘Donate an hour pay day’ in November – (staff contribution matched £ for £ by JT)

· Global charity day (24 hour global bike relay across JT’s offices in London, Melbourne and CI)

· Bucket rattling at local community events

· Three JT teams participated in the Jersey Marathon Relay
