Grand Jersey’s general manager was crowned the Institute of Director’s Young Director of the Year at a ceremony at The Grange Hotel in London on Friday 11th October.

Eamonn Elliott, who has overseen the hotel receive a number of accolades over the last year, said he was thrilled to be given the title: ‘I am over the moon to win such a prestigious award. The IoD is such a brilliant organisation and so to be recognised nationally by them is something I am very proud of. I have received this award on behalf of my team at Grand Jersey, it is as much their award as it is mine.’

Seven directors from Jersey were recognised for their outstanding achievements and leadership qualities at the IoD 2013 Director of the Year Awards in May. They had been chosen from a shortlist of 22 senior professionals and directors with more than 50 people being originally nominated.

‘Jersey has some exceptional business leaders who make the island the success it is and so to be named alongside them is extremely humbling,’ said Mr Elliott. ‘I cannot thank my team enough for all their efforts, which have enabled Grand Jersey to achieve national recognition as well as local accolades. Everything we do is centred on providing an unrivalled experience for our guests and so to have that independently endorsed is particularly pleasing,’ added Mr Elliott.

Mr Elliott joined Grand Jersey as operations director five years ago, when the hotel had four stars and was not making a profit. Today the property is a profit making, five star hotel, boasting a Michelin-starred restaurant and an award winning spa.

His win follows a number of other notable successes for the hotel. Last year, Grand Jersey’s head chef Richard Allen was named Chef of the Year in the Hotel Cateys Awards and his Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant, Tassili, was entered in the 2013 Good Food Guide – a first for the hotel. He was also recognised in the prestigious Debrett’s 2012 People of Today list.

Mr Elliott began his career in health spa management after spending a period of time as a professional footballer for Carlisle United. He then moved into hotel management at The Devonshire Arms at Bolton Abbey and Mount Falcon in Ireland.
