The 2021 Jersey Big Weekend went off with a bang this month!

Hundreds of people embraced the good weather on 24th and 25th April and celebrated the island’s fantastic tourism industry by visiting a huge range of attractions, trying out experiences and sharing their memories on social media.

Over 45 tourism businesses donated hundreds of pairs of tickets and experiences to the Jersey Big Weekend, with over 3300 islanders registering to win and making over 65,000 applications for the free tickets in the online ballot.

Tourism and hospitality businesses went out of their way to extend a warm welcome to ticket holders over the weekend, and lucky winners shared their pictures on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for the chance to win an iPhone SE 64GB donated by Jersey Big Weekend sponsor JT in the Big Weekend photo competition.

Graeme Millar, CEO, JT Group said: “It’s been wonderful to have been part of something that inspired so many people and businesses to work together to remind us all of Jersey’s wide-ranging attractions.

Digital technology has enabled people to instantly capture their experiences, sharing them with loved ones far and wide, showing just how beautiful our island really is. With the advances in technology, enabled by Jersey’s full-fibre network, we have as a community quickly adapted to different ways of working, living and enjoying our home. Judging by the amazing social media content generated by islanders and shared with such enthusiasm, The Jersey Big Weekend has been a great success.’’

This event was designed to help re-ignite people’s passion for their island by showing them just how much there is to see and do on their doorstep.

Visit Jersey CEO Amanda Burns said: “We could not have asked for better weather – or a better welcome – for this years Jersey Big Weekend. All the participating businesses got into the spirit of the weekend, and shared some lovely feedback from customers about the whole experience.

“Our social media feeds were full of great posts and pictures from the weekend, both from ticket holders and attractions. Roll on 2022!”

During the weekend, the Chief Executive of the Jersey Hospitality Association visited several participating attractions to show his support for the industry. He commented: “The resiliance of this industry after the last year is inspiring, and without the support of local residents some of them may not still be operating. The Jersey Big Weekend showcases the wonderful bredth of our industry and I’m sure that the ticket winners will become great advocates of these businesses when they have visiting friends and relatives.”

The winner of the Jersey Big Weekend photo competition will be chosen later this month and will receive a white iPhone SE 64GB courtesy of the Jersey Big Weekend Sponsor JT. Photos should be uploaded to Facebook, Instagram or Twitter by 10th May using #JTjerseybigweekend and tagging @visitjerseyci and @JTsocial to enter.

Sponsored by JT and organised by Visit Jersey, the Jersey Big Weekend event aims to boost tourism and support leisure businesses by giving islanders the chance to discover – or rediscover - a huge range of attractions and activities across Jersey for free for one ‘big weekend’.

The Hotel Cristina proved to be the most popular with 6 offers including an overnight stay and Jersey Seafaris was a close second. Gin and rum tasting with the Channel Island Liquor Co, lunch and afternoon tea at Greenills Country House Hotel and tickets to Valley Adventure Centre completed the top five and their combined applications drew in over 22,000 bids.

Other tickets included entry to some of the island’s top attractions with Jersey Heritage, Jersey Zoo, aMaizin! Adventure Park as well as water activities, overnight stays, and food and drink experiences.
