Who can think of a greater pleasure than lazing on a picnic rug on a sunny afternoon and feasting on fresh crab sandwiches and delicious strawberries?

Picnic in the Park is running throughout the month of August. Locals and tourists are being invited to discover the natural beauty that the Jersey National Park offers and a taste of authentic local produce, whilst getting a bit of al fresco, blanket-based foodie fun.

In support of Visit Jersey’s 'The island break' campaign, #picnicinthepark is back for a second year, sponsored by Islands. Families, groups of friends and organisations are invited to organise a Picnic in the Park, self-created or bought in from local hospitality suppliers. In support of the campaign, restaurants, hotels, delis and cafés from across Jersey have created some delicious picnic menus which will be available to order.

This year's initiative includes a ‘Grill on the Green’ with Suma's Chef James Gordon, a French Riviera themed picnic designed by The Grand Hotel, and tailor-made Sustainable Cooperative (SCOOP) Hampers. There is ample to choose from including charcuterie platters, gourmet sandwiches, grazing boxes, afternoon teas, and lots more. All the options will be made available to order online via Jersey National Park's website on 28thJuly meaning the only thing left to do is to choose the picture-perfect picnic spot.

To launch this year’s campaign, The Jersey National Park is running a competition on their social media pages. They have teamed up with some of the picnic providers and are giving people the chance to win a free picnic. Six mini picnic baskets will be placed around the Park from Wednesday 21st July. To find out how to enter, go to either their Facebook or Instagram page.

Jim Hopley, Chairman of Jersey National Park, said: “The Jersey National Park has 2,145 designated hectares of land within its protected boundaries that can be appreciated and enjoyed. Whether you are looking to have a foodie experience, want to sample some seasonal Genuine Jersey produce, or simply need a break from the kitchen, there are plenty of picnic options to pick from whilst taking in the amazing scenery right on our doorstep."

Mr. Hopley continued: “The Park collaborates closely with many local organisations to not only help protect unique landscapes but to provide a memorable experience to everyone who steps within its boundaries. Covering around 16 percent of the Island’s land mass, the majority of the Park is owned by private landowners, farmers and conservation organisations such as the National Trust, so it is important to respect these designated areas. Keep to the footpaths, follow the signs, avoid walking across private land and remember to leave property as you find it, ensuring you take all your rubbish away with you.”

Gary Kelly, Head of Marketing at Islands said: “We are proud to sponsor Picnic in the Park for the second year. The thought of having picnics in our beautiful and varied National Park on a sunny summer’s day is part of what makes Jersey special. This campaign encourages us to enjoy the best of what Jersey has to offer, whilst getting together loved ones and friends.”

The public is being encouraged to share their favourite picnic spots by simply posting their photos on Facebook or Instagram and tagging @jerseynationalpark #picnicinthepark #jerseynationalpark. They are also being reminded to picnic responsibly and abide by the Jersey Countryside Code.
