Are you affected by cancer? Are you supporting someone with cancer? Do you have questions about cancer?

Macmillan Jersey is working in collaboration with the Jersey Cancer Support Network, which consists of local cancer charities and Government of Jersey departments to put on a range of talks this World Cancer Day (4th February) at the Santander Work Café.

The aim is to provide information for cancer patients, their family/friends, and the public – including wider health care professionals.

The itinerary of talks is as follows:

  • 10am-10:20am Cancer.je
  • 10:25am-10:45am Jersey Cancer Relief
  • 10:50am-11:10am Macmillan Jersey
  • 11:15am-11:35am Customer and Local Services, Government of Jersey
  • 11:35am-11:55am ABC (After Breast Cancer)

Pam Aubert – Service Manager at Macmillan Jersey said: ‘We are coming together with other local charities for World Cancer Day to raise awareness of the support available in Jersey for people affected by cancer. We hope people can attend the pop-up event to see a presentation or get some information that may help them, or someone they know. 1 in 2 people will hear the words ‘you have cancer’ in their lifetime. We are all doing our bit to help close the care gap here in Jersey with the support of the Cancer Network.’

The theme for this year’s World Cancer Day is “Closing the Care Gap” – highlighting the equity gap and accessibility issues that can negatively affect care. Macmillan Jersey will be launching their new website to coincide with World Cancer Day – to help further ensure any islander affected by cancer has access to emotional, practical and wellbeing support – through their preferred route of contact.

Kevin Alway – Operations and Communications Manager said ‘Accessibility is at the core of our new website – and we have made several enhancements to allow ease of use for users. People can now book sessions at The Oasis using the website, donate and support us through more payment methods and view upcoming events. In time we’ll be developing the site even further – and want to thank Steve and the team at SystemLabs for their hard work’.

The charity will also be opening the doors of The Oasis – Macmillan Jersey’s cancer support and wellbeing centre at The Lido Medical Centre, to allow members of the public a chance to view and talk about the services offered to them.

To further raise awareness, Fort Regent will be lit up Orange for the day!
Macmillan Jersey’s new website will be live from the 4th February and can be found at www.macmillanjersey.com
