On Wednesday, 21 July parishioners in St Ouen will be asked to vote on the introduction of a household recycling collection in the parish.

Eight out of twelve parishes already provide household recycling collections which allow residents to recycle paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and metal packaging from their doorstep. If the parishioners agree, St Ouen will be the ninth parish to take part in the scheme.

The Parish will hold an information drop-in session at St Ouen’s Parish Hall on Monday, 19 July from 4pm to 7pm for parishioners to learn more about the proposed recycling collection and ask any questions directly to Connétable Richard Buchanan and a representative of the Government of Jersey’s recycling team from the Department of Infrastructure, Housing and Environment.

Connétable Richard Buchanan said: “Now that restrictions allow, we can move forward with plans to make recycling easier for everyone in the Parish.  Although our recycling banks at the Parish Depot are popular, many parishioners are unable to use these facilities and it is important that everyone in St Ouen has the same opportunity to recycle.  I look forward to talking to parishioners about this at our drop-in session on the 19July and to seeing as many parishioners as possible at the Parish Assembly where a vote will be taken.”

Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Kevin Lewis, said: “A household recycling collection in St Ouen brings us one step closer towards the aim of all Islanders having easy access to basic recycling.  I am delighted that the Parish of St Ouen is voting on this at the next Parish Assembly, and I am looking forward to helping residents reduce their waste and recycle more.”

The St Ouen recycling collection drop-in information session is being held on Monday 19July at the Parish Hall at 4pm – 7pm. The Parish Assembly is being held at the Parish Hall on Wednesday, 21 July at 8pm.
