Rossborough Healthcare’s popular Free Health Check event is returning for a third consecutive year in 2016 – offering several hundred islanders the chance to receive a range of specialist health checks and advice on how to proactively manage their health.

Rossborough Healthcare is partnering with medical professionals and charities to provide two days of free health checks with a particular focus on heart disease and diabetes – two major issues affecting islanders’ health. The events will be held on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th July at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel.

After its success last year, Rossborough Healthcare has again teamed up with Dr Andrew Mitchell and his specialist cardiology team at Jersey General Hospital to provide comprehensive heart disease checks, using specialist equipment from Cardiocity, a UK company that specialises in healthcare technology, to provide a range of interactive health tests for people to complete on mobile devices. The RhythmPad devices can provide ECG results and screening for cardiac arrhythmias in under 30 seconds, as well as other useful health data.

‘At Rossborough Healthcare we are passionate about educating people that regular health checks can increase the chances of the early detection of underlying health issues, and encouraging people to take a proactive approach to managing their health. In both of our previous events, we know that we have made some important interventions into people’s lives and we hope that will continue into this year’s event. Attendees will have access to some ground-breaking new technology and will receive advice from some of our finest local healthcare professionals,’ said Richard Clarke, head of Rossborough Healthcare.

The free event is open to all islanders over the age of 18 and will include cardiac, respiratory, spirometry, diabetes and electrocardiography tests. Experienced, qualified, local medical professionals will conduct the tests and will be available to give immediate feedback on test results in a professional and confidential environment.

Some of Rossborough Healthcare’s key insurance partners; AXA-PPP International, Aetna, Simplyhealth, Denplan and Unum Dental are co-sponsoring this year’s event.

Representatives from local charities Diabetes Jersey, Jersey Heart Support Group, the British Heart Foundation (Jersey), Heart for Life and the Jersey Asthma and Respiratory Society will be on hand to offer advice and support. Jersey’s Stop Smoking Service will also be on hand to offer advice and Wellbeing World and Kit Chamier - True Food, will be there to offer advice around healthy lifestyle and nutrition.

‘The Free Health Check event in 2015 reached maximum capacity in a very short space of time. We would encourage anyone who didn’t manage to get a space last year to register early to avoid disappointment. This year’s sponsor’s area will be more interactive than in previous years, so in addition to the health checks that people receive, there will also be the opportunity to interact with some local health and wellbeing professionals as well as some of well established healthcare insurers,’ added Mr Clarke.

Individuals wishing to attend the event must complete a simple pre-registration on the Rossborough Healthcare Health Check website, for an appointment slot that will last 30-40 minutes. These slots will be available from 8am to 5.30pm on both days. Islanders can also book multiple slots for family members, but event organisers do require one registration per individual.

To provide an accurate consultation, attendees will be asked to fill in a basic health questionnaire during pre-registration to bring along to their designated appointments.
