Jersey Airport’s annual Run the Runway event is back this year, with five charities set to benefit.

The annual charity fundraiser was postponed last year because of Covid-19 restrictions, but it is now due to go ahead on October 12th after the last flight of the day.

100 runners – 50 prize-winners who have supported Beresford Street  Kitchen, Dementia Jersey, Caring Cooks and Healing Waves, and 50  participants running for Breast Cancer Support - will race the 3.4 kilometres once the airport has closed.

Every year, Ports of Jersey’s chosen charity partners have the opportunity to host an exclusive ‘run the runway’ fundraising event at Jersey Airport.
Last year, Covid restrictions meant the event became virtual and participants chose to run the distance of some of the airport runways across the British Isles and mainland Europe.

This year’s run is scheduled for the evening of 12 October, with a contingency of 14 October in case there is a late extension or an  ambulance flight on the 12th. It is designed for anyone over the age of 12 to take part, regardless of fitness or ability.

Ports of Jersey’s Corporate Social Responsibility Development Manager, Leanne Bass, said: “I’m so pleased that we can run the event in person this year. We thought laterally last year, and participants told us how much they’d enjoyed the virtual challenge of running 21 runways over 21 days. But there’s nothing like seeing 100 people lined up and ready to runfor their chosen charities.”

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and one of the charities taking part in this event is Breast Cancer Support.
