The winners of this year’s De Putron Challenge events in Guernsey and Jersey will go head-to-head next Monday [18 November] to determine the Channel Island champions in the Year 6, Year 8 and Post 16 age groups.

With last year’s conclusion held in Guernsey, this year’s inter-island final will take place in Jersey at the Radisson Blu Hotel.

Beginning at 10.30am, the team from St Andrew’s Primary School in Guernsey will face Jersey opponents Janvrin School to establish the first ever pan-island champion of the newly established Year 6 De Putron Challenge.

Jersey’s De La Salle College will then take on Guernsey’s Elizabeth College for the Year 8 title, while Hautlieu School will contend with Elizabeth College’s sixth form team for the Post 16 award.

The winners will each take home the coveted De Putron Challenge Inter-Island trophy for their age group.

ITV Channel’s Rob Moore, the event’s long-serving quizmaster, said that competition would be fierce this year with some real talent seen in the island qualifying events.

“The events in both islands have gone down really well and the level of knowledge has been awesome. The inter-island final is often the most energetic stage of the competition, adding a healthy dash of island rivalry to the mix,” he said.

“The year six category will be a highlight for me. It is the first time we have included this age group and the winning teams from St Andrew’s and Janvrin are both forces to be reckoned with.”

Hayley de Putron, trustee of the Ana Leaf Foundation and founder of the De Putron Challenge said that the event will be a great conclusion to another successful year of the inter-school quiz.

“Year on year we see incredible talent across the islands and it is wonderful that, we have been able to host our very own intellectual inter-insular.

“The De Putron Challenge was borne from a desire to give academic prowess the credence it deserves and to do so in a way that is fun; infusing education with the spirit of competitive sports. We hope that every team involved, whether they claim the trophy or not, gains from the experience,” she said.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the inter-island final, but for those who cannot make it a live stream will be available online at http://www.delta-av.com/deputronchallenge.
