Skipton International is inviting Jersey charities and good causes to apply for financial support from the Skipton Community Fund.

The Skipton Community Fund has been running for just under five years and is a dedicated resource for local causes, charity projects and initiatives at the heart of the Channel Island communities.

Currently, the Community Fund is open for applications from Jersey-based organisations needing support to get their good cause or initiative off the ground.

Each organisation can apply for a grant of up to £5,000 to fund new equipment, an event or project that serves the local community in some way. The Community Fund has helped a number of charities and community causes since it was established in 2018 across the Channel Islands, many of which have been Jersey-based.

For example, Look Good Feel Better – a charity which provides confidence-boosting and wellbeing workshops for islanders with cancer – was recently awarded £1,400 to help transition back to face-to-face classes after lockdown.

Commenting on the Community Fund, a spokesperson for the charity said: “This support has been invaluable in enabling us to return to face-to-face workshops in the Channel Islands after having had to move our workshops online during covid. The application process was easy and the staff at Skipton have been enormously supportive. We would recommend local causes to seek their support as they work to improve lives through the Skipton Community Fund.”

This year, ten local charities and good causes were nominated by the Skipton team to receive funding to mark the bank’s 13th birthday. Amongst them was Philip’s Footprints, a charity which provides support and community for parents and families after the loss of a baby or a child.

Founder of Philip’s Footprints Jo Nash said: “Philip's Footprints were delighted to receive a grant earlier this year from the Skipton Community Fund scheme which provides fantastic support for our community. At a time when we are all finding fundraising that bit harder, this was appreciated so very much.

“Whilst some grant schemes can be quite narrow in what can be applied for, Skipton's scheme has supported a really wide range of projects and the application process is simple. You can even look back at previous recipients to see what has been funded if you're unsure your project would meet the requirements. Only four straightforward questions, Philip's Footprints would absolutely recommend that other charities and causes apply.”

Lorraine McLean, Mortgage Sales Manager at Skipton’s Jersey Mortgage Centre said: “At Skipton, we’re so immensely proud of our Community Fund and all the incredible projects it helps realise. It means a great deal that these charities and organisations who are providing vital services in the local community look to us as a resource to get their projects off the ground and we can’t wait to receive the next round of applications!”

The Skipton Community Fund is accepting Jersey applications between now and the New Year when the next tranche of funding will be announced.
