THE LIONS CLUB OF JERSEY held what the Club believed to be one of the largest ‘scavenging’ challenges yet to be offered to the public and the winners, the Frigot family, are looking forward to a visit to Jersey’s offshore islands, the Minquiers reef, as their prize.

The Lions mascot Melvin (pictured below) is unlikely to accompany them since he doesn’t like getting his feet wet.

In the event, which took place largely in the school Easter holidays, the 117 participating teams, who each paid £20 to take part, were invited to find the answers to 100 questions scattered all over the Island together with other tasks that challenged their creativity and skills.

Lion Ian Barette led the team that devised the competition. “Like every other charity, our fundraising has largely ceased due to the impact of the coronavirus with both the 2020 Swimarathon and 2020 Muddy Fun Run being casualties,” says Ian. “’Springtime Scavenging’ was an event for all the family with challenges for all ages and all could participate without breaking any Covid rules.  Lions believe in putting ‘fun’ into fundraising and this is very much a fun event and a way of discovering all Jersey’s hidden corners. What’s more it raised more than £2,000.”

Springtime Scavenging was so popular that it is likely to become an annual event.
