Jersey racing driver James Walker will be returning to the cockpit this weekend after a late call up to compete in the GT Cup Championship. James will be piloting the Almara Racing Porsche GT3 Cup car alongside regular driver Guy Riall.

The GT Cup offers a fresh and unique approach to GT racing with plenty of track time for racing drivers to enjoy their GT Supercars in a friendly, professionally organised but still competitive environment. This weekend’s race will be on the world famous Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit. Both drivers are excited about the extra Grand Prix layout and, as this weekend’s GT Cup will be supporting the Blancpain Sprint series, the large crowd will guarantee a fantastic atmosphere.

James recalls his last race at Brands Hatch: "It was back in 2010 when I raced in the SuperLeague Formula. That couldn't have been more different from the Porsche I'll be racing this weekend so I will have to get used to it as quickly as possible." James' last Porsche outing was at the Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona back in 2011.

The race weekend structure allows Guy to be joined by a second driver for the longer race. For James, this is a great way to work with the team where he started his career. "When I heard that I’d be joining Guy this weekend I was really happy. It’s great to work with people who have a specific goal that they want to achieve. Guy's come such a long way in a very short period of time and it'll be great to play a little part in his journey to Le Mans".

Tim Sugden Motorsport is running the Almara Racing team. Tim has been James' personal manager since 2001 and, as well as racing himself, has kept his own race team to look after drivers including Guy and James. The day to day running of team is under the control of Andrew Schofield.

James will also be on Managing duties himself at Brands Hatch as Jersey's other racing driver Struan Moore will be on track in the BRDC Formula 4 Championship. "I was due to be at Brands Hatch to look after Struan anyway so it's going to be a busy weekend. Struan had such a great start to the season at Silverstone and we'll be working hard to make sure this continues."

From Brands Hatch, James will be staying in the UK to start filming for his new role as the World Series By Renault pundit for BT Sport. "We have a few features that we will be filming on Monday ahead of me commentating on the World Series race on Sunday morning in Monaco. I have fond memories of that race, having enjoyed a podium finish myself in 2009.”
