C5 Alliance in Guernsey has partnered with network optimisation company Riverbed Technology to help local businesses benefit from cloud-based enterprise computing platforms without high bandwidth costs.

Riverbed’s solutions focus on network management and optimisation, particularly across hybrid cloud architectures – where a business has an on-premise network but also uses cloud-based services.

Matt Ferbrache, head of technical solutions at C5 Alliance, recently attended an intensive Riverbed partner bootcamp to learn about the latest developments and how they could apply to businesses in Guernsey.

“The training highlighted how the latest Riverbed technology, called SaaS accelerator, can enhance online software platforms such as Microsoft Office 365. We’re seeing an increased demand from local businesses for cost-effective enterprise solutions like Office 365 because they allow cloud-based working – remote access to your systems and real time upgrades and maintenance which would be far more difficult and more than five times the cost to arrange on-premise.

“Local connectivity costs have previously made this type of arrangement out of reach for many businesses. Riverbed allows businesses to sidestep this problem and puts them on a par with lower cost jurisdictions.

“One local business using this solution is seeing an average reduction of 78% in Office 365 traffic, with peak reductions of 98%. It’s a powerful combination and one that is really positive for Guernsey,” he said.

Mr Ferbrache also recently completed the MCSA Office 365 certification.

Managing director of C5 Alliance, Marc Lainé, said:

“Too often we find that connectivity costs on circuits are holding the island back. Guernsey was promised lower prices but priorities have shifted.  This provides a very effective solution to the problem.

“C5 is pleased to partner with Riverbed; we are continually looking at ways to benefit Channel Islands businesses through collaboration with respected providers from across the globe. It is now more vital than ever that the island stays competitive.”
