C5 Alliance has raised £1,833 for Guernsey Mind in its second annual speed quiz, more than double the amount raised at last year’s event.

The “Smartphone Pub Quiz” challenges competitors with a number of traditional trivia rounds such as general knowledge and music but requires teams to provide answers against the clock via a special app on a tablet or smart device.

Hosted by quizmaster Will Davey, the event also featured a fundraising raffle and auction with prizes donated by a number of local businesses.

Marc Lainé, managing director of C5 Alliance in Guernsey said the popularity of last year’s first-ever speed quiz in Guernsey and the money raised for Guernsey Mind had made the event an annual fixture.

“Guernsey Mind is C5’s charity of choice and we are pleased to be able to provide ongoing support. This event is now a big part of that support and we are thrilled with how generous our guests have been, which has resulted in a fantastic amount of money raised for an extraordinary charity.

“It is fitting that we can provide this support through a fun, fast-paced and tech-enabled event. Guernsey Mind’s work for the island is indispensable and life-changing. We hope this contribution will help them to continue their good work,” he said.

Emily Litten, executive director of Guernsey Mind, said: “We are so grateful to C5 Alliance for supporting us with this unique and fun event for the second year in a row. Unmanageable stress affects one in six Guernsey workers each year and has an enormous impact on the health and wellbeing of local businesses. The participation of businesses from both Guernsey and Jersey shows a community that is willing to invest in the mental health of its employees and I hope that they will look to the services that Guernsey Mind provides to support them in this.

“We’ll be using the money raised to support our local Community Centre, which is available to anybody experiencing poor mental health, and our employment project which helps employers to develop mental health strategies, train staff and audit wellbeing.”

Guernsey Mind’s vision is of a society that has a positive attitude towards mental wellbeing and where the community embraces respect for all. The charity provides a service that promotes positive mental health for the local community and campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and encourage understanding.
