Guernsey College of Further Education plans to hold a series of events for the local business sector to help inform and shape the future apprenticeship model so that it meets the island’s specialist technical, professional and vocational training needs.

Local employers are invited to attend one of the sector-specific events to discuss the future needs of their industries and how the college can support them in ensuring that its learning provision creates a qualified, employable ‘future workforce’.

College Principal, Louise Misselke said:

‘Our mission is to be a demand-led supplier of world-class education and professional development. We aim to develop an apprenticeship scheme that accommodates the needs of a much broader range of sectors than those that have traditionally participated. There are many apprenticeship models now in operation around the world but all combine both theoretical knowledge development related to that vocational sector together with practical learning in the work setting.  We are keen to discuss the benefits of the opportunities these schemes offer to employers from across the island’s industries.

‘We want to hear from the business community how we can develop our curriculum to support its future plans and objectives and I hope that a broad range of businesses is represented at these events so that we can gather as many thoughts and ideas as possible.’

The details of the events are as follows:

Mon 30 Oct - Creative & Digital Arts, Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, Hospitality & Catering, Performing Arts, Dance, Retail & Service Industries, Craft & Jewellery, Travel & Hotel Management.
