Mobile access was a key requirement for the new Guernsey Airport website, according to developers Indulge Media.

“Travellers typically like to check for updates on their upcoming journeys, and if you are meeting people off a flight, getting an up-to-the minute report on when they will land is really useful,” said Director Pat Cunningham.

“Previously this information was available online and was accessible, although not straightforwardly, on mobile phones. Having been awarded the contract to develop a new website for the Airport we knew that this was something that would need to be addressed.”

Guernsey Airport’s website has been rebuilt from the ground up by Indulge, who adopted a responsive design, ensuring that the site can be viewed equally well on desktop computers, laptops, tablets and of course on mobile phones with arrivals, departures and weather data updated every 60 seconds.

“So much of the internet is now accessed via mobile it is important that key public services follow suit,” said Mr Cunningham.

“People expect access to information while they are out and about and the launch of 4G in the islands has only increased that expectation.”

As well as improving mobile experience, the site has been redeveloped to allow airport users access to information more easily.

“Important information about security, flight times, facilities and parking is now more easy to get to, improving customer experience greatly. The site also allows for real-time updates, and social media integration, which means airport users are more informed than ever before,” he said.

Since launching earlier this year the new website has had a positive response from users and has seen a high number of visitors.

“From April to June this year, the website’s arrivals and departures page has had over one million views and we predict that over the year the site will have around 300,000 visitors. This kind of footfall also makes it a great platform for advertising, which will ultimately recover the costs of the building the website.”

Airport Director Colin Le Ray said: “The new site is fantastic. Making sure people can access the information they need to make their experience at the airport better is a key part of our online strategy. Indulge have done a great job and we look forward to further developments with the site.”
