A £3,000 donation from a Jersey charity is helping send four of the island’s most talented young athletes to a world championship competition next year.
The money from the Lions Club of Jersey will help cover the travel costs of four members of the Jersey Special Gymnastics Club who will be competing as members of Team GB at the World Games in Abu Dhabi.
The quartet are Matthew Kirkland, Aaron Bonner, Cailiegh Quail, and Jessica Vieira.
Lions Club President Ian Barette says: “The achievements of the Club and its gymnasts are sensational, and we are very pleased to be able to use more funding from this year’s Swimarathon to help the Club members who will be part of Great Britain’s team. Their successes are a tribute to their own abilities and the expertise and dedication of their coaches. We wish them the very best of luck.”

The club was set up in 1991 and was originally called the Mont a l’Abbe Special Gymnastics Club. At the time there were just 10 gymnasts and the club was based in a small hall with just eight mats. There are now more than 40 members and the club is recognised world-wide as a centre of excellence.
