Airport warning for passengers flying this weekend

Wednesday 17 December 2014

More than 16,000 passengers are expected to try to get through the Airport this weekend and they’ve been given an important message – don’t try to bring wrapped presents or crackers in your carry-on luggage.

Airport staff say that wrapped presents should go in your checked-in luggage, along with any crackers – but party poppers and homemade crackers are a complete no-no that will not be allowed on the flight.

And they say that if you want to carry presents in your carry-on luggage, then don’t wrap them – because security staff might have to open them up early!

So far this year, the number of air passengers is up around 3.1% on 2013 – a decent increase, but just shy of the 5.5% increase in sea passengers over the same period.

Group Customer Relations Manager for Ports of Jersey, Rosemarie Grimster, who has responsibility for the terminals, said: “It is perfectly understandable at this time of the year that people are travelling with a higher than usual number of presents and we want them to have as smooth a journey as possible through the airport.

“However, security measurements are in place, which all airports must adhere to, even at this time of the year but we hope that by giving our passengers advance warning by ways of a timely reminder of what they are permitted to carry on board, it will decrease the risk they take of having items denied boarding at security search.”

If you’re looking for a full list of what can and can’t go on your flight, you can check out the Airport’s website for all of the details.
