WATCH: "Amazing" Jersey school teacher praised by Apprentice candidate

Tuesday 23 March 2021

A Jersey science teacher has been singled out for his “amazing” teaching by a candidate on a global version of the Apprentice.

Sho Takei, who is competing in ‘The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition' said he "didn’t know where he’d be today" without JCG teacher Dr Peter Le Masurier.

Speaking on the show’s website, Mr Takei, who as a competitor represents Japan, said that until he had met Dr Le Masurier he “wasn’t studying enough” or taking his education seriously.

However, this was all to change when he met JCG’s current physics teacher and Director of Internationalism and Business Development, who at the time was teaching at an international school in Shanghai.

“There was one teacher, he was an amazing teacher. I still talk to him today. He’s a chemistry teacher,” Mr Takei said. “And I loved his classes. I hated science, but I just loved his classes because they were amazing.”

Dr Le Masurier helped Mr Takei hone his potential, telling him to “put in the time and effort and be ambitious.”

Discussing how much Dr Le Masurier cared, he added how “he spent extra time for us students to learn more after school."

“So I went to his after-school classes and got to spend more time with him and the other students, and my grades improved significantly," Mr Takei recalled.

After taking on board this encouragement from Dr Le Masurier, Mr Takei achieved ‘Sportsman of the Year’ four times in a row, and eventually went on to do a degree in sports management at New York University, before getting a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Hong Kong University of Science And Technology.

Having worked as a recruiter at Uber, and formed HYRE, a Tokyo recruitment firm, he is now competing in ‘The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition’, a worldwide version of The Apprentice which combines sport and business.

The winner of the show will go on to gain a $250,000 contract to work with top sport CEO, Chatri Sityodtong.

On Mr Takei’s success, Dr Le Masurier commented: “It is great to see one of my former students leading such an exciting and varied life. His entrepreneurial spirit is clear to see!

“He is a great example of what can be achieved if you believe in yourself.

"This is just the type of mindset that we promote during our LEAP leadership programmes at JCG.”
