Ana Rebelo will be "deeply missed", say family

Wednesday 12 April 2017

A woman who was found dead in a St Helier property last week has been described as a “loving mother” by her family.

In a statement released by the States of Jersey Police, the family of Mrs Ana Pereira de Sousa Rebelo (51) – a popular member of the St Thomas Catholic Church community – said that she will be “deeply missed by all of her family here and in Portugal”.

“As a family, we continue to grieve her passing and try to deal with what has happened on a day to day basis.”

They added that they will continue to work with the Police to find out how Mrs Rebelo met her death – allegedly due to compression to the neck “by a third party”.

The statement continued, thanking the public for their support: “We have seen many condolences online from the public and read the kind words from strangers wishing us well and sending their thoughts and prayers to us, this means a lot to our family and has offered us some comfort during this tragic ordeal.”

Nonetheless, they asked that their “privacy be respected whilst we try to come to terms with our loss”.

An investigative team of over 30 people are currently pursuing around 100 lines of inquiry into Ms Rebelo’s death – an operation codenamed ‘Gable’ by the States of Jersey Police.
