Another art attack on Normans

Saturday 31 October 2015

The bright yellow façade of Normans is being transformed again next month into an enormous public gallery.

Every evening from Tuesday 10 November until Saturday 14 November the Jersey Projection Gallery will feature an exhibition of work on the front of Commercial Buildings.

The Gallery will see some of Jersey’s most important work being shown together, for free, for the first time including work by Claude Cahun, Millais, and Edmund Blampied from the Jersey Heritage Collection. Also showing is a collection from CCA Galleries International, with exhibiting artists Lucy Farley, Edy Ferguson, Bruce McLean, Sir Peter Blake, Dan Baldwin, and Storm Thorgerson.

The exhibition includes work from Jersey Heritage, Société Jersiaise, Archilse and CCA Collections, Skipton Art Series artists, Elektra’s Dazzle Camouflage, Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, Natwest Island Games and the Inter-Island Artist Lock-In. It will also feature an exhibition of Remembrance on Remembrance Day.

The big Gallery is the final event in Jersey Arts Trust’s Skipton Art Series 2015 involving visual art organisations, professional and amateur artists, community groups, schools and the general public. The series has nurtured artists’ creativity and collaboration, and has included workshops from Street Wisdom, Archilse and pop up exhibitions with National Trust for Jersey.

Skipton International’s Managing Director Jim Coupe said: “Skipton International is proud to support the arts and the Jersey Projection Gallery is the culmination of an exciting year of Skipton Arts Series activities. This is the first time works of art have been shown this way on the island, and the programme looks set to offer an inspiring arts experience for the whole community.”

Project Manager of the Skipton Art Series, Sasha Gibb, said: “You are not expected to like everything you see. However, I hope by making this work public, more people than ever can debate, discuss and enjoy Jersey’s visual arts culture.”

The Jersey Projection Gallery runs daily from Tuesday 10 November until Saturday 14 November at 5.30pm and you can see it all from the Steam Clock on the New North Quay where you can also buy a crepe and a hot drink from Coco Rico. The exhibitions will also be shown at Jersey Museum from 10am until 4pm daily.
