A renowned local artist and sculptor is back next month with his biggest exhibition on the Island for eight years.

Nicholas Romeril is showcasing his most ambitious works to date with ‘Free to Jump’ – a collection of over 40 pieces on canvas, slate and stainless steel at CCA Galleries International.

The internationally acclaimed artist has been exhibiting all over the world in the last few years – in Miami, London, Switzerland and California.

Nicholas said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be able to share my largest exhibition in eight years in Jersey. It’s a pivotal collection for me of over 40 pieces of work.

“The new underwater collection is all about breaking small rules and is sensation driven rather than realism. The pieces set in the sand dunes are particularly reflective representing memories, footprints in the sand and the elements that wash them away.

“Each room in the Gallery will represent a different theme and feel and showcase all the different aspects to my current practice.”

The works feature seascapes, underwater, dunes, boulders and cliffs and one set of paintings encapsulate some hidden places on the Island’s north coast you can only get to in a kayak.

Nicholas has been working with local art fabricator Neil McKenzie to create a set of stainless steel sculptures inspired by splashes.

His signature piece ‘Roller’ is an extra large oil on linen measuring 150cm by 180cm

The exhibition, sponsored by Voisin Law, opens at CCA Galleries International on 10 November.

Voisin Law Head of Marketing Georgina Jeffries said: “As a firm we have long been supporters of Nicholas Romeril’s work having purchased our first piece of his in 2006.

“We are so pleased to now be able to support him in such an important exhibition and the previews of the pieces we have seen are absolutely phenomenal. It’s important for us as a local business to support the arts and make them accessible to our entire community. We hope people enjoy the exhibition and come out to support Nicholas during the two week showcase.”

The exhibition runs from 10 to 21 November at the Gallery at 10 Hill Street.

CCA Galleries International’s Manager Elizabeth Purgal said: “We are delighted to host this exciting exhibition for Nicholas Romeril. This show is particularly special and it will sit well alongside the best UK contemporary artists including Sir Peter Blake and Damien Hirst. We anticipate that it will be very popular considering Nick’s growing fan base.”

CCA Galleries International is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 5pm and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.
