Au revoir to direct flights to Paris

Wednesday 03 December 2014

Blue Islands have cancelled their services to Paris, Amsterdam and Zurich with effect from 5 January.

They say that Islanders will still be able to reach the destinations via a new link to London City Airport and their new partnership with CityJet – but that the alternate day direct flights to the three European destinations are coming to an end.

The current Geneva service will also change, and will keep running only during the ski season.

Rob Veron, the managing director of Blue Islands, said that the partnership with CityJet meant that passengers could book their trips to Europe through London City with one booking and that they could check in bags to their final destinations.

He said: “Our codeshare with CityJet will transform travel to and from Jersey to Europe.

“Passengers will immediately have access to three new European cities on our network together with Amsterdam and Paris, significantly more frequency, and greater flexibility, and all bookable with Blue Islands.”

The chief executive of the Ports of Jersey, Doug Bannister, said that the announcement was good news for passengers.

He said: “Despite the loss of the direct air services, it will offer an improved level of frequency and a far greater choice for convenient travel days than currently available.

“While direct flights are always good, we believe this new product offering will be more popular given the significant improvement in connection possibilities through London City Airport.

“We view mainland Europe as a growth opportunity for Jersey and are pleased that one of our partner airlines, Blue Islands, has responded with a strong offering that should be attractive to local residents as well as incoming visitors travelling for both business and leisure purposes.”
