Back to the Chamber…

Tuesday 11 November 2014

After two days of wrangling over ministerial appointments, the States returned to action this morning to pick the politicians who will run Scrutiny panels, the spending watchdog and sit on the new Police Authority.

Although the ministers have now been chosen by the States, politicians head back to the Chamber today to round up the rest of the political appointments before the new political term begins in earnest in a fortnight’s time.

The appointments left to consider are the heads of the Public Accounts Committee, and the Scrutiny panels covering Corporate Services, Economic Affairs, Education and Home Affairs, Environment Housing and Technical Services and Health and Social Security.

Apart from those panels, the States also have to pick members for the Privileges and Procedures Committee that covers States rules and discipline, which will be chaired by St Clement Constable Len Norman, as well as members of Scrutiny panels, members of the Jersey Overseas Aid Commission, members of the States Employment Board that deals with employment issues and members of the Jersey Police Authority that oversees the work of the States of Jersey Police.
