Breakwater break spot opens its arches

An arch underneath St. Catherine’s breakwater has been converted into a seaside snack spot, selling refreshments and ciabattas to passers-by.

Jersey Seafaris has converted and opened ‘The 3 Arches’ - a new shop selling coffee and food, as well as merchandise and fishing tackle, tucked into the breakwater, a few hundred metres along the promenade.

The company normally runs rib trips and tours between Jersey and other small islets in the Channel Island archipelago such as Les Minquiers and Les Écréhous, but decided to turn its hand to something different.

Described as “a little shop in an iconic spot”, the arch-shaped units have been transformed into a small snack zone which opened its doors for the first time over the weekend.

Diners are encouraged to take a load off on a deck chair on the breakwater and soak in the panoramic sea views.

Word about the new venture spread fast, leading to the ciabattas, prepared by Seymour Hotels Catering, selling out on Sunday.

Jersey Seafaris posted about their new venture, which they said kept them occupied during lockdown. 

The arches have already garnered praise on social media with Chief Executive of the Jersey Hospitality Association (JHA) Simon Soar posting a positive review on a local group.

Mr Soar wrote: “Just opened and we had some of the best ciabattas I’ve ever tried. Staff are just the friendliest and the view as we ate was world-class.”
