Busier buses wins company top award

Jersey’s bus service is getting better.

In fact it’s improved so much the firm has won a national award.

The National Transport Awards celebrate success across road, rail, ferries and buses, and honours the successes of projects and organisations that have improved passenger experience.

LibertyBus picked up an award for Improvement to Bus Services, and was also shortlisted for Bus Operator of the Year.

Over the past three years passenger numbers have gone up by 32% - something the company puts down to creating a reliable, punctual service. It’s also put on new routes.

But the rise isn’t just because people don’t have a choice. A survey shows 57% of those who use the bus in peak time own a car but chose the bus instead.

Commenting on the award, Dai Powell, Chief Executive of the social enterprise HCT Group – the parent of LibertyBus – says: “I am delighted that the success of LibertyBus has been recognised in this way. Our success in Jersey is down to the hard work of our staff and a genuine partnership with the States of Jersey.”

Kevin Hart, Channel Islands General Manager adds: “this is award recognises what we have achieved by working together as a team – where everyone has pulled together to create a bus service of which the Island can be justly proud.”

It’s an opinion backed by the Island’s Minister for Infrastructure, Deputy Eddie Noel: “this is a fantastic achievement by everyone at LibertyBus, together with a small, but dedicated, transport team at DfI. We are proud of you.”
