Call and Check co-founder to stand for the Alliance

Wednesday 20 April 2022

A former pharmacist who went on to co-found a service offering support and visits to people wishing to maintain their independence living at home will be standing for election with the Jersey Alliance.

Jersey-born businessman and charity chair Phil Romeril is hoping to become a Deputy in the St. Helier North district.

He took over the running of De Faye’s on David Place, Jersey’s oldest chemist, in 1991 and worked there until the business was sold to the Channel Islands Co-operative Society in 2014. He then became Head of Healthcare there for a further four years.

Since 2018, Mr Romeril has been Honorary Chair of Family Nursing and Home Care, and is also the co-founder and Director of the award-winning Call and Check service, which has inspired a similar service in the UK.

Mr Romeril also describes himself as a keen sportsman, particularly at football, snooker and gold, and has performed the roles of Secretary, Treasurer and President at Vinchelez Sport Club over the last 25 years.

“Having spent a career working in the community in both my businesses and the charity sector, I am delighted to be putting my name forward as a candidate in my home district: St. Helier North,” Mr Romeril said.

“I am proud of the contribution I have made to Island’s life throughout my time at De Faye’s Chemist and the Co-op, together with that at both FNHC and Call and Check.

“This is an exciting time for politics in Jersey and I see real opportunity for change and improvement developing out of the upcoming election. If elected, I view a role in the States Assembly as an opportunity to bring my experience in business, healthcare and the charitable/voluntary sector to bear for the benefit of all islanders in Jersey.”

Jersey’s election is taking place in June.
