Call for singers, musicians, actors and linguists!

Sunday 18 September 2016

If you can sing, play a musical instrument, act or speak a foreign language and want to show off your talent in this year’s Jersey Eisteddfod, it’s time to sign up.

The big festival has been running since 1908 and is still highly popular and this year dancers will be back on stage competing for top spot in their biennial competition.

The Modern Foreign Languages sections now cover seven different languages including Spanish, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese and Japanese. The French class is now over 100 years old and is still a firm tradition in the Eisteddfod with the option to perform a piece in Jersey’s native language, Jèrriais.

Chairman of the Music Section Sue de Gruchy said: “The Jersey Eisteddfod is growing year on year. For instance, the Deaf Signing classes are now so popular with groups from the Island and the UK, that Dr. Paul Whittaker is introducing a new adjudicator to the Festival. This will be supported by local charities Earsay and the Jersey Deaf Society.”

The General Administrator Christine Hamon said: “The Jersey Eisteddfod remains enormously grateful to Deutsche Bank and the Jersey Arts Trust.  Without their continued support, we would be unable to offer such wonderful venues in which our artists may perform.”

Deutsche Bank in the Channel Islands’ Chief Executive Andreas Tautscher said: “Encounters with the arts help children and young people develop their own creativity, overcome personal and cultural boundaries and learn team spirit.  We are proud to continue our partnership with the Jersey Eisteddfod which provides a platform for islanders to showcase their creativity and talent.”
