The organisers of Jersey’s Eisteddfod hope some rock and pop stars of the future will take their first steps into the limelight this year to compete in their new classes.
Over a thousand musicians of all ages will be giving it their all on stage at the Jersey Opera House over the next ten days and although there’s not enough money in the pot for talent spotter Simon Cowell they’ve got to impress a man with a lifetime of showbiz experience.
Martin Pleass is a songwriter and international performer who will be judging this year’s talent and giving all the competitors tips on how to improve their performances.
The Jersey Eisteddfod started back in 1908 when one of the Island’s former Deans wanted to improve the standards of speech, presentation and music among his fellow Islanders.
This year’s festival opens today with 73 young drummers making music and there will be more traditional and classical music performances later on in the run.
Organisers hope they'll drum up a lot of support from the public. If you want to go along and watch tickets are £3 on the door.
