Families with children may have spent much of the summer hunting tortoises – but the Tortoise Takeover has been an opportunity for people of all ages to get outside and be creative.
Care home residents at Cheval Roc and Les Charrières have been getting arty, painting so many mini tortoises that they are now proud owners of a “shell-ection” of the sculptures.
Many of them have been out and about looking for the 50 giant tortoises, even joining forces with the Fort Regent-based nursery La Petite Ecole for a 'Tortoise and the Hare'-themed story time.

Staff have been getting in on the action too, taking part in a 'shell-fie' competition.
LV Care Group COO Chris Shelton said: “This is a fantastic initiative for a great cause and everyone at LV, residents and staff have been really keen to get involved.
“It’s a great, fun way of getting out to parts of the island you may not have visited for a while, see some amazing artistic talent and we’re thrilled to be helping raise funds for some of the world’s threatened reptiles and amphibians.”

LV Care Group sponsor both a giant tortoise on the trail and a 'young' one - ‘Keep Going, Keep Growing’ at Howard Davis Park by artist Rachel Hall, and 'Donnashello', located at the NSPCC and created by La Sente Secondary and La Passerelle.
