Charity Chomp: Blueberries with a (non-alcoholic) twist

Friday 14 July 2023

A delicious mini mocktail that packs in one of your five-a-day... What more could you want?

This week's Charity Chomp is brought to you by Jersey Action Against Rape (JAAR), which provides long-term counselling and support to survivors of sexual violence.

It was shared by Annalisa Bale for the charity's 'Recipe and Walk' book, which brings together islanders' favourite tasty treats and whimsical walks.

"Blueberries are one of my favourite fruits and, as my son Oscar is a fantastic mixologist, we are always experimenting and looking for new ideas," she said. "I discovered this delicious cocktail through the Craft Gin Club.

"If you are squeamish about egg white cocktails, it is equally delicious without it. Nothing changes a drink more than how it is served so forget the washing up and use your best glasses!"

(Serves one)

Annalisa’s Blueberry Sour

Ingredients

  • 40ml gin

  • 25ml lemon juice

  • 10ml violet liqueur

  • 10ml sugar syrup

  • one egg white (optional)

  • Fresh blueberries, to garnish

Method

  1. Muddle the blueberries at the bottom of a cocktail shaker, then add the rest of your ingredients.

  2. Shake once without ice to make the egg foamy, then add ice and shake again.

  3. Strain into a cocktail coupe and enjoy!

Top tip

Freeze blueberries and pop them in your normal gin & tonic to add colour and keep your drink cold!
