Clampdown on "inappropriate" Rue des Pres parking

Saturday 03 June 2017

New parking restrictions are to come into force at Rue des Pres Trading Estate next week to stop islanders parking in “inappropriate” places.

Starting next Tuesday, those visiting the area will have to abide by new parking restrictions, which will stop them from parking on corners and in spaces reserved for workers at nearby businesses.

The move come as a result of converting the estate roads into ‘main roads’.

Yellow lines have now been painted to prevent problem parking, and several pay card and permit parking spaces have now been created.

Spaces reserved by businesses for their use will be marked in blue and signposted, with users expected to display a permit for their use. Remaining spaces will be accessible by the public with the use of pay cards.

Deputy Eddie Noel, Minister for Infrastructure, said that the changes should resolve what has caused, “…a number of traffic related safety problems at Rue des Pres for years now.”

“I am pleased that we now have parking controls in place, an important first step to improving safety and making the trading estate a much more pleasant place for workers, residents and business clients.”
