Organisers of this year’s Jersey Triathlon have launched an appeal for volunteers to assist on 9 July to ensure a safe, smooth-running event.
40 volunteers are needed to help on the day as race route marshals as part of the event include a 40km bike race to the west of the Island.
No previous experience is required, the only conditions are to be over 18-years-old and to be able to spare between two and four hours on the morning of 9 July.
About 450 competitors, including more than 100 off-island triathletes, will take part in the event, which starts and finishes at Les Jardins De La Mer. Participants will complete a 750m swim in front of Elizabeth Castle, a 40km cycle route out to the west and finish with a 2.5km run around Jersey’s Waterfront and Elizabeth Marina.
The triathlon has four different race categories, designed to suit all levels of ability. The most demanding is the 'Olympic' distance, but the event also has a 'Super Sprint' distance and a 'Jersey Sprint' distance, which is a variation on the normal 'Sprint distance', with a longer 40km bike ride. The event also includes a multi distance Junior Triathlon on the same day.
Anyone able to support the event by volunteering should email: [email protected] or call 505926 to register. Forms can be downloaded from www.jersey-triathlon.com/volunteers.
